🧰 Step-by-Step Guide: Setting Up Your eFoil for the First Time

Setting up an eFoil for the first time can feel overwhelming — different brands use slightly different systems, but the core setup process is very similar: assemble the board, mount the mast unit, add the wings, connect the battery, and pair the remote.

This guide brings together the standard steps shared by most major eFoil brands, so you can follow it regardless of which model you own.

:white_check_mark: 1. Unpack & Check All Components

All eFoil systems typically include:

  • Board kit (rigid carbon board or inflatable hybrid board)

  • Mast unit / power module (mast + motor + ESC + cabling)

  • Front wing & stabiliser

  • Battery (standard/long-range depending on model)

  • Controller / remote

  • Charger

  • Tools & screws (usually hex or Torx)

  • Sealing rings or gaskets

  • Board bag / wing bag

:speech_balloon: Community tip: Before assembly, check all seals and connectors for sand, dust, or damage — this matters for both safety and longevity.

:white_check_mark: 2. Install the Mast / Power Unit

This step is nearly identical across Fliteboard, Lift Foils, Awake, Waydoo, and other brands.

  1. Place the board upside down on a soft surface.

  2. Slide the mast unit into the board’s mounting box or track.

  3. Align the connector(s) into the board’s internal compartment.

  4. Secure using the supplied stainless steel screws (commonly M6).

  5. Tighten each bolt evenly — don’t overtighten.

:pushpin: Different brands vary slightly:

  • Lift & Fliteboard use deep mast plates.

  • Awake uses a click-in drive unit.

  • JetWave-style boards use a mast module with a connector slot.

But the principle is the same: secure mast → connect cables → ensure no movement.

:white_check_mark: 3. Attach the Wings (Front Wing + Stabiliser)

Most brands use a similar fuselage setup:

  • Slide the front wing onto the fuselage and secure with the correct screw length.

  • Attach the rear stabiliser (tail wing).

  • Tighten until snug — wings should not flex.

:light_bulb: Choosing wings:

  • Large wings (1200–1750 cm²) = best for beginners

  • Medium wings = balanced carving

  • Small wings = high speed

:white_check_mark: 4. Insert & Connect the Battery

This process is shared across nearly all major eFoils.

  1. Open the battery hatch.

  2. Ensure the sealing ring/gasket is clean.

  3. Insert battery — usually label side up.

  4. Match color-coded or keyed connectors.

  5. Lock hatch fully until secure.

Most boards automatically power on after the hatch is closed.

:white_check_mark: 5. Prepare & Check the Remote Controller

General steps regardless of brand:

  • Fully charge the remote using the magnetic or USB charger.

  • Power on with a long-press of the main button.

  • Check battery level and connection icons.

  • Confirm no water is inside the charging port.

Brands with special controls:

  • Lift & Fliteboard use trigger-style throttles.

  • Awake uses a handheld wireless throttle unit.

  • JetWave-style systems include a touchscreen controller with modes/gears.

But all share the same principle: pair → check signals → confirm throttle response.

:white_check_mark: 6. Pair the Remote with Your Board

Common steps across brands:

  1. Power on both board and remote.

  2. Open pairing mode (Search / Connect / Scan).

  3. Select your board from the list.

  4. Confirm connection on your remote screen.

Some brands require WiFi/4G activation on first use.

:white_check_mark: 7. Final Safety & Pre-Ride Check

Before taking your eFoil into the water:

  • Re-check mast bolts & wing screws

  • Inspect propeller/nozzle (or jet unit)

  • Verify remote shows correct board battery level

  • Test magnetic safety switch or kill cord

  • Wear helmet + impact vest

  • Ensure water depth is at least 1.2m

  • Never stand up on sand or shallow water

  • Make sure the board remains OFF until you’re in deep water

This step prevents hardware damage and ensures safe riding.

:rocket: You’re Ready to Ride

Carry the board by gripping the nose, mast behind you.
Walk into deeper water before powering on.
Start in beginner mode, low gear, or lowest throttle.
